Courses:

Level 2 Gym Instructor
Level 3 Personal Trainer
Level 3 Exercise Referral

I was 31 years old and had been working as an accountant for 14 years I hated my job. I wanted to try something new my girlfriend suggested that I try the fitness industry I was competing in MMA competitions and I loved the fitness element of it but I was a little aprehensive of swapping careers as my appearance is not what you would call athletic and I was worried that the industry was only for 21 year olds with tans and huge biceps. My girlfriend reassured me that not everyone in the gym wants to be taught by a huge Arnie clone! So I had a look online at the various course providers and there were many different ways to qualify after a bit of research I found out that a REPS recognised course was the way to go.

I decided to pick Innervate as they offered a course that was a mixture of distance (online) learning and class based face to face classes. It kept the price low as some courses can cost upwards of £2000 but it also allowed me to get some hands-on experience at the gym with a qualified instructor. Our Instructors showed us the correct way to induct a complete beginner in the gym in a way that was informative but not patronising. We also learned some great techniques that I still use on my clients today. I also made some good friends on that level 2 course and we decided to stay on study at Innervate for the level 3 together. Level 3 was a little harder than Level 2 with much more in depth anatomy and nutrition but this made it all the more rewarding when I had passed.

Since qualifying for my CYQ Level 2 Gym instructor and CYQ Level 3 Personal Trainer I am now employed full time at a local health club with my own personal training clients. I no longer fear Monday mornings even though I get up at five for the early spin class! and I genuinely think that I now have the best job in the world. There is no better feeling than helping someone get over an injury through exercise rehab or knowing that you have improved someones self confidence. I am now looking to increase my knowledge further by studying GP referral as you can never stop learning in this industry.
