What is your background with exercise and fitness training and why did you choose the course you did?

After my BSc, I undertook an MSc in Exercise and Behavioural Medicine at the West University of London. Presently I am in the second year of a full time PhD study, examining lifestyle interventions at Coventry university. My background with exercise and fitness qualifications includes training as a professional swimmer. I have previously completed a level 3 swimming coaching certification, a level 3 Personal Training Certification and a Level 4 BACPR exercise instructor training.

Why did you choose the course you did?

I chose this course to increase my knowledge, skills and experience. I am lecturing in Exercise, Nutrition and Health courses. Furthermore, it is now a prerequisite that all level 4 BACPR qualified individuals attain a Level 3 Exercise Referral Certificate before registering on Level 4 REPs.

Why did you choose HFE to deliver your training?

I chose HFE because it offers a distance learning facility and a high quality training programme. Compared to other institutions, I felt that they also offered the best value for money.

What did you enjoy most about your course?

I enjoyed numerous aspects of the course, including the course manual because it was straightforward an clear. The teaching staff because they were extremely professional at all times and because I was able to select a preferred date and venue for training days and exams.

What did you find most challenging about your course?

I found that the case studies were the most challenging aspect of the course, but I overcame this with the assistance of the course manual. I also learned how to apply theories to real situations by following the manual and lecture notes.

I would rate the quality of teaching offered by my tutors as excellent.

To what extent did you feel supported during the home-study phase of your course?

During the home-study phase of my course I was supported by approachable and courteous staff that made themselves available to provide assistance or answer any questions. I felt that I had more time to study without any stressful and time consuming activities such as commuting.

How would you rate the teaching and learning materials provided to you?

The teaching and course materials provided were outstanding.

What is your current role?

My current role is doctoral researcher and lecturer.

What are your future training and career plans?

My plan is to complete my Doctorate study and will have an academic career including teaching and research responsibilities. I intend to further enhance my knowledge by attending additional level 4 courses relating to exercise programmes in the future.
