Aquatic fitness is very different from exercising on land and having the skills to teach classes in a pool can make you an in-demand instructor. Group exercise continues to grow in popularity and taking this activity away from the gym floor provides an exciting change of pace for those you teach. Our Level 2 Aqua Instructor course teaches you everything you need to know about planning and teaching effective exercise in water. You’ll also discover how water affects the body, and various techniques for teaching cardiovascular and muscular strength exercises.
The course is certified by YMCA Awards (formerly CYQ) and we deliver it with a mix of distance learning and practical sessions. This ensures you’ll have plenty of time to master the technical aspects of the course before you undertake your final assessment and teach a planned exercise session.
This qualification is very flexible in its use and provides the opportunity for fitness instructors, exercise to music teachers, and personal trainers to expand on their repertoire. There are no formal prerequisites for this course, but we do recommend that you already hold a Level 2 Fitness Instructor qualification. Experience of participating in water-based exercise sessions will also be incredibly useful.
If you don’t already have a fitness instructor qualification, you will need to complete the anatomy and physiology, and the principles of exercise and fitness modules, in addition to the above assessments. This incurs a cost of £100.
This Level 2 qualification is worth 20 points with the Register of Exercise Professionals. It will also allow you to join the register as an aqua instructor.

Thank you H.F.E. it was a great course, and i enjoyed it. Felt completely supported, by the staff there. Amazingly friendly and caring. And lovely venue
I found the whole course very enjoyable, interesting and knowledgeable. Enjoyed learning about all the different conditions and I feel that I have been supported by HFE from the first moment through the entire course.
The venue for the gym training was very good, and easy to find. Overall though, the course was enjoyable and I am hoping to do level 3 very soon!
Level 2 and Level 3 Personal Training Loved everything about this course! Meeting new people, learning new things as well as the support team and course tutors. As soon as i enquired about the course i was phoned up within 10 minutes of emailing, so i could find out more about the course. Within a week i was all signed up and had all my books sent to me. I struggled at first to teach myself everything, but having the support tutors was great because i had someone to call/email whenever I was stuck, Chris Tonge was my tutor, and he helped me loads from the beginning. He recommended websites and different methods of revision to help suit my learning style.
