Capitalise on the popularity of Spinning and RPM with our Level 2 Indoor Cycling Instructor course. It’s an essential qualification for those professionals looking to make themselves as employable as possible. The popularity of indoor cycling continues to rapidly increase, with new trends and spins on the formula emerging all the time. Those who participate in cycling classes experience a great range of health and fitness benefits, including weight management, improved cardiovascular efficiency and greater levels of muscular endurance to name but a few.
This qualification is accredited by YMCA Awards (formerly CYQ) and across the journey of the course, we’ll equip you with the essential skills needed to safely and effectively instruct indoor cycling sessions. You’ll also learn about a variety of physical and psychological benefits; important anatomy and physiology considerations; and engaging ways to make your classes the best they can be.
Our course are delivered via a blend of distance learning and an intensive 2-day practical workshop. This approach allows you to get up to speed on the theory in your own time, freely access our e-learning and printed materials, and utilise the support from our experienced tutors. You’ll then be able to apply your knowledge in a practical way throughout the rest of the course.
Indoor cycling presents an ideal step up for those who have already achieved a Level 2 Gym Instructor, or a related fitness instructor qualification.
Our Indoor Cycling Instructor course won’t just teach you the basics, or theory in abstract, it shows you how to apply this knowledge when it comes to actually planning and instructing classes of your own. At the end of the day, that’s the sole purpose of our qualification, to take your career to the next level. The following is by far an exhaustive list, or everything you will learn on this course, but it will serve as a great introduction of what to expect.
• Planning safe and effective indoor cycling sessions
• Teaching fun, energetic and effective indoor cycling sessions
• Health, safety and welfare considerations
• A variety of cycling approaches and techniques
• Setting up indoor cycling classes
• Using music effectively for exercise
• Motivating participants during a class/session
The course is comprised of three main elements:
If you’ve ever participated in an indoor cycling session yourself, you know how hard it can be to dig deep and keep pedalling when your body feels like it’s going to give way. Being a great motivator and commanding a room are essential skills to have. As a qualified instructor, you could be the deciding factor between a client giving up and getting off the bike, or pushing through to the end of the session.
Aside from personal qualities, in order to enrol, you must have, or be working towards, a Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instruction (Gym or Exercise to Music). This can either be held in the context of exercise of music, gym instruction, circuit training or aqua instruction. We also also recommend that if you’ve never taken a spinning class you do so during the distance learning period of the course. Being familiar with the bike and the structure of sessions will prove incredibly useful.
Our course is worth 16 CPD points with the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs). Unfortunately, this course alone will not gain you entry onto the Register at Level 2.

Fantastic course from start to finish, really enjoyed the studying and practical elements of the course, the support from my course tutor was amazing and nothing was too much trouble. I would defiantly recommend HFE for all aspect of fitness qualifications. I am on my second course now and will be booking my third shortly. Thank you HFE. X
From the start I have had support from the team, nothing was too much trouble, I did try to take part in the training in so rather than a weekly call I was then given a call every few days - it really made a difference!
I was so nervous going onto the course, I thought I can't do it it's too hard and although the work was challenging and new the support from my tutor ringing me every week really helped he made me realise I actually knew more than I realised!
The practical days were very useful, and the online content greatly complemented them. Concepts I had struggled to understand myself were clear, and the tutors were happy to answer the many questions I had!
