The practice of yoga has a history that dates back over 5,000 years. Today, this holistic form of exercise is used to create a stronger mind, body and spirit connection, develop flexibility, posture and relaxation. Increasingly, yoga is also used by athletes and sportspeople to increase their performance and reduce the risk of injury. There really are few limits to how this practice can be used in the modern world.

Our Level 3 Diploma in Teaching Yoga is a total immersion course that goes above and beyond the standard course content. Delivered with a highly practical approach, this is a course specifically designed for people who want to turn their passion for yoga in to a viable and rewarding career.

Our course is specifically designed to prepare you for a career as a yoga teacher. It also provides great CPD opportunities for anyone with a passion for group exercise. There is a great deal of synergy between Pilates and Yoga, which is why many of our Pilates graduates are also drawn to this qualification.

Certificated by YMCA Awards, this internationally recognised yoga course contains the following:

History and philosophy of yoga

  • Timeline of the practice, from ancient to modern styles
  • Historical yoga texts and how these can be used to support your learning
  • Introduction to Mudras, Bandhas and Kriyas
  • The Seven Chakras
  • The Eight Limbs of Yoga

Understanding yoga asana

  • Developing effective asana practice
  • Physical and mental benefits of yoga practice
  • 55 asanas techniques (including suitable preparatory and counterposes)

Yogic breathing and pranayama techniques

  • Distinct phases of yogic breathing
  • Introduction and application of pranayama: the expansion of life force through the control of breath

Planning and teaching yoga

  • Using a yoga journal
  • Designing and developing yoga lessons
  • Progressive exercise programming
  • Teaching and evaluation skills/techniques
  • Adapting, modifying and progressing yoga asanas/pranayamas


Constant support from dedicated tutors and continuous assessments ensure you’ll get the most out of this industry-leading qualification. They’ll be ample opportunity to demonstrate the skills, abilities and expertise you’ve gained on course in a practical and engaging way.

The final assessments for the Level 3 Yoga Teacher Training course include:

  • Worksheets: Fundamentals of teaching yoga (philosophy and practice); Precautions, prohibitions, modifications and benefits of asana; Dealing with common conditions encountered in a yoga class
  • Anatomy and Physiology multiple choice theory exam
  • 60 hour yoga practice journal Yoga lesson plan and practical assessment
  • Group lesson plan
  • Sun salutation – practical assessment (continuous)
  • Asana practice – practical assessment (summative)

All students are required to bring along two healthy participants for day four, the practical assessment day. They will participate in the assessment as class members.


Your level of success from this course will be determined by your passion for subject, the amount of work you put in and your prior experience of practising yoga. There are no formal requirements and it is still possible to complete the course with little or no experience of yoga. However, the course is aimed at students with a basic level of experience so it may be necessary to increase the distance learning period significantly to accommodate your lack of experience.

During this time you will need to undertake a great deal of yoga practice as a student. This will help you develop an understanding of how it is performed and the spirit in which it is practised and delivered.

There are no formal prerequisites for Level 3 Yoga; therefore you don’t need to hold any lower level qualifications to enrol.


Level 32 CD points

The Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) awards 20 continuing professional development (CPD) points for this yoga course. As a result, you’ll automatically be eligible to join the Register as a qualified yoga teacher and achieve the much sought after Level 3 REPs status.
