The Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instruction is the most popular entry-level qualification for anyone wanting to launch a career as a gym-based fitness instructor. Certificated by Central YMCA Qualifications (CYQ), this is one of the most industry recognised gym courses in the UK. The course is also widely recognised throughout Europe, Canada and Australia.
The course covers all of the knowledge and skills required to become a gym instructor, and also serves as an excellent foundation for anyone wanting to progress to personal training. The course is usually the first stage to of achieving personal trainer status; as such it features in our Essentials Personal Trainer Course package.
The course combines just the right blend of distance learning with weekend attendance to give you the knowledge and skills you need to succeed in this thriving industry. The majority of the theoretical content is delivered through home study, while the weekend attendance teaches you how to apply your newfound knowledge practically, so that you can deliver safe and effective gym-based exercise programmes.
We normally recommend that students take around 4-6 weeks to complete the distance learning, although this is a flexible programme and depending on the amount of time you can dedicate to your studies, you may be able to reduce this time somewhat.
The home-study period large focuses on the theoretical subjects, particularly the anatomy, physiology and planning gym-based exercise. The practical element is delivered over 2 weekends at one of our regional training venues. The first weekend mainly involves a range of theory and practical workshops, while the second weekend focuses largely on assessment.
