Discover how to make exercise inclusive for PPN clientsEnquire today
Develop your knowledge about pregnancy and use this to effectively adapt exercise for pre and postnatal clients.
Traditionally, when a woman became pregnant the advice given was that they should take things easy and put their feet up. While sufficient rest is clearly important to both mother and baby, and prolonged standing or over-exertion should be avoided, pregnant women are increasingly being encouraged to remain as active as possible, for as long as possible.
There are always important factors and considerations that must be addressed, but exercise can have a range of benefits including preventing excessive weight gain, reducing nausea and fatigue, improving posture and increasing foetal growth.
Exercise programmes should be as inclusive as possible and that’s precisely why this qualification exists. It’s our job to empower exercise professionals and remove any fear or hesitation of working with pregnant clients. This can only be done with the right skills and the appropriate level of knowledge.
Our pre and postnatal course is fully accredited by YMCA Awards and recognised by both REPs and CIMSPA. This qualification is delivered primarily through home-study, although you will be required to attend one of our training venues to complete a theory assessment.
Alongside this, you’ll have access to a wealth of learning resources including bespoke manuals online content such as practice quizzes, and innovative video lectures presented by a highly experienced, registered midwife.
As this is primarily a home study course, we’ll provide all the learning resources and support you need to succeed. Here’s a selection of topics you’ll encounter on course:
To guide your learning and to really bring the course to life, we’ve created a series of video lectures presented by a highly experienced, registered midwife. You can get a feel for this content by watching the short promo video below.
Our pre and postnatal course has three mandatory assessments that you’ll need to complete during your studies.
To give you plenty of opportunities to practice and hone your skills, within LES (the Learner Engagement System), you’ll find multiple-choice questions from a range of topics.
In order to enrol onto this training course, you must already possess a Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instruction – either gym-based or group exercise. Those with a Level 3 Diploma in Mat Pilates or a Level 3 Yoga Teacher qualification are also eligible.

I definitely recommend HFE if you want to train as a Pilates instructor. I enrolled in the Pilates and Back Pain Management Specialist courses.
I have only just enrolled for the YMCA Level 3 Diploma in teaching Yoga. There is lots of useful info on the website and the Careers Support Consultant was very helpful and rang at the times requested.
Just completed the Diploma in Pilates and level 3 nutrition with HFE. Absolutely brilliant. Nothing is too much trouble and so supportive. Easy to talk to and very encouraging.
I've just completed my level 3 personal training qualification through HFE, I have to say the standard of reading material and online learning material was easy to understand and thorough. The online advice and support available allowed me to ask questions and get responses quickly which also helped a great deal.
