Learn More About This Sports Massage Course

Intro

The role of a sports massage therapist is an all-encompassing one and can be as much about treating injuries as it is preventing them. There are also aspects of assessing conditions, aiding rehabilitation and dealing with the emotional side of pain.

Sports massage isn’t solely reserved for elite athletes and sportspeople and while it can be incredibly effective for these groups, massage techniques can be adapted for everyone from occasional gym goers to office workers.

Due to the sheer variety of people that massage can benefit, employment opportunities are never in short supply. Developing your own clinic or practice in a self-employed capacity is an incredibly popular route. There’s also the option to work for an existing establishment or find work at sporting events, such as marathons and triathlons.

Massage therapy also presents a fantastic CPD opportunity for already qualified personal trainers, Pilates instructors and yoga teachers.

Our sports massage course is fully accredited by YMCA Awards and recognised by both CIMSPA and REPs. Currently, we deliver in Manchester and London, with more venues across the UK to be announced very soon.

You can discover more about sports massage by reading our career guide or sampling our bespoke student manual.

What You'll Learn

Sports massage is an inherently hands-on discipline so it’s only right that the course reflects that. The skills and knowledge you’ll gain during your journey will empower you to achieve great success and truly impact the lives of your clients.

Here’s a brief overview of what you’ll encounter:

  • Anatomy and Physiology for Sports Massage

  • Planning and Evaluating Massage

In conjunction with the above, you’ll also learn about all-important health and safety, the history of and development of sports massage, and more.

How You'll be Assessed

To make things as engaging as possible and to give you the best chance of passing first time, we’ll give you the chance to demonstrate your theory and practical knowledge in a range of ways.

  • Practical Assessments

You'll be required to perform a pre-event, post-event and maintenance massage on a client

Timetable

Before you embark on your first practical weekend, we normally recommend at least 8 weeks of home study and that’s based on an hour a day.

  • Weekend 1

An introduction to sports massage including practical workshops for various massage techniques

  • Weekend 2

You'll continue to learn more about massage techniques for various body parts in the form of practical workshops

  • Weekend 3

This is where it all comes together with your anatomy and physiology exam and your practical assessments

The venue for the gym training was very good, and easy to find. Overall though, the course was enjoyable and I am hoping to do level 3 very soon!

I did this course a month ago and I really enjoyed it. I wish we had had more classes as I felt we would have benefited even more from practical workshops. Overall, I am really happy with the service I received and professionalism of staff members.
