The ability to work effectively with special populations, such as ante and postnatal clients, is often cited by exercise professionals as a noticeable gap in their skill set. Exercise programmes need to be as inclusive as possible, regardless of one’s physical circumstances, and this is why our Level 3 Pre and Postnatal Exercise Instructor course exists. Women should not be excluded from partaking in exercise because they’re pregnant, or because they have recently given birth. This qualification therefore aims to empower you with the necessary skills and knowledge to safely work with both pre and postnatal clients.
Traditionally, pregnant women have been advised to rest, take things easy and put their feet up. While prolonged standing activities and over-exertion should be avoided, and rest is clearly important to both mother and baby, pregnant women are however increasingly encouraged to remain as active as possible for as long as possible. In cases where women were engaged in regular exercise before they fell pregnant, they are also encouraged to continue exercising throughout their term. There are however a number of important factors and considerations that must be assessed, which is why this qualification exists.
This course is delivered primarily through home-study, although you will be required to attend one of our regional training venues to complete the theory assessment. In order to enrol on this training course, you must already posses a Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instruction – either gym-based or group exercise. Those with a Level 3 Diploma in Mat Pilates or a Level 3 Yoga Teacher qualification are also eligible. It’s important to note that pre and postnatal exercise can be delivered in a one-to-one or group context. Therefore, students with a Level 2 group exercise qualification would not be permitted to teach one-to-one sessions and vice versa.

This qualification is worth 20 CPD points with the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs). While this qualification alone does not allow successful students to gain Level 3 REPs entry, it can be used as evidence of continuing personal development.
