If you are a funded student with HFE, or you are considering undertaking one of our funded qualifications, you may be required to complete the following assessment of your numeracy skills to determine if the qualification is appropriate for your current needs and ability.
In most cases, the result of your initial screening assessment will not affect your eligibility for the training course, but it will help our support team to determine if you are likely to need any extra help with the maths/numeracy related elements of your qualification.
If the following assessment demonstrates that your numeracy skills are below the required standard, your personal tutor may signpost you to another training company for additional training and support. This support is free of charge and may lead to an additional qualification. The training is not mandatory and you can opt out if you wish to do so. The results of this assessment may also be used to provide you with a greater level of support throughout your course, so that you are not disadvantaged by any shortfalls in your numeracy ability.
If you already have a maths GCSE (or equivalent) at grade C or above, you do not need to complete this screening assessment. Please advise your tutor when you enrol so that they can record this information on your learning plan.
Numeracy skills are required by fitness professional for a variety of reasons. You may be required to calculate a client’s body mass index (BMI), body composition, weight loss or heart rate training zones; it is therefore essential that you have the numeracy skills to be able to perform these tasks with confidence.
Before starting this assessment, please ensure that you have access to a printer. Alternatively, if you are completing this assessment on an Ipad or other tablet devise, please perform a screen print of your results and email then to your tutor once you have completed the assessment. You are not permitted to use a calculator to help you work out the answers for each question.
