The Intermediate Level Apprenticeship in Activity Leadership is a broad and flexible apprenticeship programme that can be tailored to your individual needs, and those of your employer. Many of the modules are interchangeable and so in most cases we’re able to make this programme truly bespoke to your needs, goals and ambitions.
All you need is a keen interest in leisure, fitness and/or sport, and a passion and drive to succeed. Whether you want to become a fitness instructor, recreation officer or sports coach, this apprenticeship package can be adapted to ensure that you achieve all of the qualifications you need to get your career off to a flying start!
This is an ideal programme for anyone wanting to enter the active leisure sector. Once complete there are a number of progression opportunities, including personal trainer, leisure management and sports development to name but a few.
The activity leadership apprenticeship has the following 3 pathways:
• Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Exercise and Fitness pathway)
• Level 2 Certificate in Introductory Work in the (QCF) (outdoor pathway)
• Level 2 Certificate in Coaching in chosen sport (Coaching pathway)*
From start to finish this apprenticeship will take approximately 12 months to complete. During this time you will be required to work a mimimum of 30 hours of paid work each week.
The activity leadership apprenticeship includes all of the mandatory elements listed below. In addition to these modules however, and subject to our ability to secure the appropriate funding, we may also be able to provide one or more of the added value qualifications also listed below. Please note that the added value qualifications are only available if taking the Exercise and Fitness Pathway.
* Not required if GCSE math’s and English (grade A-C) have ben achieved within 5 years.
The extent to whether we can fund these additional training elements will also depend on your age, geographical location and the size of your employer. In cases where funding is limited (aged 19+), it is unlikely that we will be able to fund these in addition to the mandatory elements.
At various stages throughout this programme you will complete a total of 8-10 days of structured training and assessment. You will also receive a mimimum of 12 workplace visits where you will be supported by one of our friendly and experienced tutors and assessors.
Throughout this programme you will undertake a number of on and off the job assessments. These assessments include:
Assessments are spread evenly throughout the apprenticeship programme to assist you to manage your own workload. Additionally, our tutors and assessors will work with you continually to ensure that you are ready for your assessment. In cases where you needmore time to prepare, or we feel you are just not ready, the assessment will be deferred to a later date and additional support will be provided.
There are no formal entry requirements for this apprenticeship programme, although before your studies can commence, you will need to secure an apprenticeship work placement. If you haven’t managed to do this yet, don’t worry! Our apprenticeship team will do all they can to help to find you a local and suitable employer.
In addition to the job, we also require you to have a passion for exercise and/sport, and be committed to your studies. All apprentices are interviewed prior to the start of the programme; in cases where we don’t feel you demonstrate sufficient ambition and enthusiasm, we do reserve the right to decline your application.
Upon successful completion of this apprenticeship programme, graduates will be eligible to join the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) at Level 2 as a fully fledged fitness professional.
