Nutrition courses and qualifications

What is your background with exercise and fitness training?

I have a degree and diploma in performing arts. I own an aerial fitness studio in Cheshire and I have taught dance in schools around the north west. I have also performed at many charity events and parties and in my spare time I teach boogie bounce.

Why did you choose the course you did?

I have always wanted to do this course as it is recommended for my line of work however not compulsory for boogie bounce and pole fitness teaching. However the course was quite pricey and with many other over heads it got set back, then when HFE rang me and said the course was being offered to me government funded I jumped at the chance.

Why did you choose HFE to deliver your training?

I chose HFE because it was funded from them, but also after checking out their Facebook page and seeing many of mutual friends liked it.

What did you enjoy most about your course?

I liked the layout of the course and how the venues for practical and assessments were chilled and relaxed, unlike a formal classroom environment. I liked the way you could study in the comfort of your own home and had a tutor on hand to call whenever you need.

What did you find most challenging about your course?

The cardiovascular system and skeletal system – I found this a lot of information to take in and remember.

How would you rate the quality of teaching provided by your course tutors?

I would definitely rate the quality of teaching by the course tutors as amazing, they are extremely helpful, friendly and passionate about their job!

To what extent did you feel supported during the home-study phase of your course?

I felt supported every step of the way! My tutor (Gregg) arranged to phone me every day; he would send me the questions to print out and go over the ones I did wrong, also if I was out dog walking he would just throw questions at me over the phone so no time was inappropriate, he made it possible to learn at any time. I could not have done this course without my tutor!

How would you rate the teaching and learning materials provided to you?

I would rate the learning material provided as very high as it’s easy to read and there’s always an alternative path to take if something doesn’t suit you. For example as I read I feel as soon as it goes in it goes straight out, so I was advised to download the audio books and listen to that as well.

What is your current role?

I am the director and owner of a well-being centre in Congleton.

What are your future training and career plans?

I would like to do the Yoga course with HFE as a progression and then the Nutrition. I already employ an apprentice with HFE and if my business grows I would like to take on more apprentices with HFE. My other plans are to win a pole competition to get my name out there more so I can tour and provide master classes; I currently teach master classes in Leigh and Wales so would like to branch out with that!
