What is your background with exercise?
I started Pilates about 10 years ago to help with my lower back pain. I discovered numerous benefits from the classes, mainly physical, all of which love.I have been a pretty regular gym goer for many years. I live a fairly healthy lifestyle, I used to swim weekly, and I enjoy skiing; I also used to play tennis regularly as a child.
I joined a small private group using machines and eventually moved to mat Pilates classes which I also incorporated into my gym routines. I have no professional exercise background as such, which made the theory part of the course challenging at times. With lots of study, however, it was certainly manageable, and my pre-course Pilates experience made the practical learning very easy.
Why did you choose HFE to deliver your training?
A friend in my class found the Pilates course and we had both done some research. Apart from the fact that it was financially very competitive, it involved self-teaching with remote support. This meant that I could work around my existing schedule and study as and when it suited me; there were only 5 course dates spread over 3 weekends so I was not away from my family for long at all. The remote support was excellent and much needed because I had to spend many many months studying the theory content, primarily for the Level 3 Anatomy and Physiology.

What did you enjoy most about your HFE course?
The very funny course day where small groups would leave the room and the rest of the class would be given a class exercise, in which a handful of us would be told to make some big mistakes, the group that had left the room would attend this part and would have to spot the mistakes and correct the students (as you would being a teacher). We were in hysterics at some points because the exercise errors were so grave, but it really added fun to the course whilst enabling us to learn the importance of student correction and being aware of some of the common positioning mistakes students make.
What is your current role?
Currently I am an events manager at Event Angel and a mother.
What are your future plans?
I completed the Pilates Level 3 Qualification while I was pregnant and so I now have my second baby on the way. I will be continuing as a full-time mother, but running events for my business Events Angel. I also plan to start teaching private Pilates classes around my work and family life.
